How to Spruce Up Your Carport

If you have a carport, there's a good chance it looks a little lonely there all by itself, especially if there's no car underneath it.  Whether you have a carport attached to your home or separated from it, there are some things you can do to improve its appearance.

With decoration, when there's no car underneath it, it won't look lonely.  In fact, it will look beautiful and inviting.  If you're currently looking at carports for your home or already have one, consider sprucing up your carport with these tips.

If your carport is already attractive, make it even more so!

Put Large Potted Plants in the Corners

Placing large potted plants in at least two corners of your carport is the best thing you can do to improve general aesthetics.  You can either buy a pot yourself with nothing planted in it, or you can buy a pot from a home improvement or flower store that's already filled.

However, when you buy a pot yourself, you have more control over look and feel.  For instance, you can buy a pot that matches the exterior of your home and put plants in it that blend with the ones already in your garden.

In addition to making a great warming piece, buying and planting a large potted plant is a great hobby.  If your carport is bare and you're looking for something to do, this is the perfect decorative option.

Decorate Your Carport's Posts

The posts of your carport are the perfect places to add decorative flavor.  With decorations wrapped around the posts, your carport will take on a fresh new appearance.  Instead of just sitting there with an obvious purpose, your carport will evolve into a fine complementary piece for your home.

If you're at a loss for what to wrap around the posts, consider these options:
  • Lights on a string (i.e. Christmas lights)
  • Green vines (blooming or non-blooming)
  • Thick ship rope (great for carports near ship docks)
If you're not a fan of decorating the posts from the ground up, consider buying an attachment piece instead.  At your local home improvement store, you can find bolt-on posts that will allow you to hang decorative items.

If you choose to take this route, consider hanging these:
  • Bird feeders
  • Wind chimes
  • Flags
If you like the idea of wrapping your post and hanging things from them, you can take both routes to improving the appearance of your carport.
